Hand Ageing

As we age our skin progressively changes, and the hands are no exception to the natural ageing process. As we age, the production of collagen and elastin slows down creating visible skin thinness, while loss of elasticity can cause the skin to the back of the hands to crepe and the skin to become semi-transparent. Since our hands are exposed to more synthetic chemicals, constant washing and household products than many other body parts, they are often one of the first unclothed areas to show signs of ageing. Nonetheless, there are a number of ways this process can be reversed or mitigated.

Photorejuvenation
Pigmentation and Sunspots to the back of the hands can add to the appearance of ageing. Laser Photorejuvenation using the Candela Gentlemax Pro is an extremely effective method for removing unwanted pigmentation to the back of the hands. Using a 755nm wavelength, the Gentlemax Pro specifically targets excess melanin in the skin. The light is absorbed and converted to heat which shatters the pigmentation, resulting in the temporary darkening and crusting of the treated area before the pigment gradually falls away. Photorejuvenation is extremely effective for superficial pigmentation, freckles and age spots, causing them to fade or disappear permanently.

Laser Correction Facial
Our Laser Correction Facial Treatment can be performed to most areas of the body, including the hands, to improve elasticity and remove pigmentation. Utilizing Q-switch laser technology, the rapid speed of the laser combined with a high repetition rate causes vibration in the skin which helps to eliminate impurities and stimulate collagen. The 1064nm wavelength specifically targets the deeper layers of the skin to promote new collagen/elastin and the breaking up of deeper pigmentation whilst still providing a safe treatment for all skin types. While the 532nm wavelength specifically targets pigment within the top upper layers of the skin, such as freckles or sun damage. The light is absorbed as heat which shatters the pigmentation resulting in the temporary darkening and crusting of the treated area before the pigment gradually falls away, removing and lightening the unwanted lesion. Laser Correction treatment to the back of the hands helps tighten the damaged or stretched tissue, improve skin laxity and reduce pigmentation.

Skin Needling
Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy is a non-invasive procedure that creates microscopic channels into the skin. This stimulates the wound healing response, triggering the production of new collagen and elastin fibres to correct and re-build the skin’s structure. For neck laxity, Skin needling to the back of the hands can encourage renewal of collagen fibres within the skin, improve the skin’s elasticity and improve the tone in the skin/reduce pigmentation.

Dermal Fillers for Hand Rejuvenation
The dermal filler option available at Victorian Cosmetic Dermal Clinics definitely offers revitalisation of skin tissue. It helps to improve the collagen fibers in the skin and balances out the skin’s tone and texture. These fillers are pain free and take very little time to carry out. These injections utilise hyaluronic, which is a natural substance distributed widely throughout skin tissue that increases fullness and suppleness. Veiny hands are often camouflaged and allowed to regain a youthful look once more. What you can expect with such a treatment is an instant difference in the skin’s suppleness and smoothness as the clock is turned back a decade or more.

What about Skin Care?

Home Roller
Similar to Professional Skin Needling, this non-invasive at home treatment uses microscopic needles to treat ageing, pigmentation, scarring and stretch marks. While an in-clinic needling treatment focuses on restructuring the dermis and requires downtime, this device uses small surgical stainless-steel needles to create tiny puncture channels in only the superficial layers/epidermis to encourage the natural wound healing and regenerating response. Use of a Home roller is recommended in conjunction with a prescribed serum as it allows it to penetrate faster and increases product penetration by 100%. The channels created close after only minutes, locking in the anti-aging and anti-oxidants ingredients with little to no downtime.

Physical Sunscreen
The daily use of SPF will not only work to prevent any further pigmentation from forming but will also help improve skin ageing. A Physical sunscreen, those containing Zinc oxide & titanium dioxide, are the most ideal due to their ability to prevent the breakdown of collagen & elastin and protection from both UVA and UVB damage. Cosmedix Hydrate+ and Cosmedix Reflect creates an instant blanket like protection and is ideal for both the face and back of the hands.
