One type of cosmetic injection at Victorian Cosmetic Dermal Clinics is a dermal filling with hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in the body. Dermal fillers are one of the safest and most effective ways to smooth out wrinkles and add volume. Our experienced cosmetic nurse will consult with you and let you know exactly what approach will be most effective in resolving your concerns.
“Our aim is to be able to offer the client everything they need to bring out their best. We don’t simply look at fillers, anti-wrinkle injections, microdermabrasion, laser treatment, or creams in isolation. Rather we formulate the perfect combination or package to bring out the best possible outcome for their skin in the long term – not just a quick fix.” – Candice Williams, Cosmetic Injection Nurse at VCDC
Uses for Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are used to plump out the skin, adding volume and fullness back into the face. They reduce lines and wrinkles, define lips and plump up cheeks. Dermal fillers can be used on any skin type. They can be used to:
- soften static lines (such as wrinkles),
- add volume in the face (due to age-related fat loss),
- balance out the face, or
- enhance and define the lips.
Softening of static lines and wrinkles
As their name suggests, dermal fillers fill the underlying skin layer and add volume. In that sense the filler stretches the sunken skin, thereby reducing lines and wrinkles for a more youthful look. Wrinkle softening can be used all over, but is most common in facial areas such as the forehead and mouth (for smile lines or frown lines).
Adding volume in the face
Subcutaneous fat loss in the face is often part of growing older. This can cause the skin to look sunken, droop and sag. Dermal fillers fill the space formerly occupied by subcutaneous fat, making the volume and fullness return. Common areas for regaining volume and redefining features are the cheeks, under the eyes, and along the jawline.
Balancing out the face
Injuries, fat loss, and other issues can lead to an uneven appearance on the face. In these cases, dermal fillers are ideal to even out the face, while a complementary treatment plan is put together to address other concerns in the long term. This is a particularly common treatment for sagging or uneven skin, or baggy eyebrows. These conditions can be treated by brow fillers, nose fillers, or other facial fillers depending on the concerns.
Enhancing and thickening the lips
Lip fillers increase volume and smoothness to your lips. As we age, our lips lose their volume, and become thinner and less smooth. Fuller and smoother lips can be achieved through lip augmentation. Lip enhancement also helps to reduce lip lines and smoker’s lines.
Conditions treated by dermal fillers
Typically dermal fillers are used in facial areas including:
- Forehead wrinkles
- Frown lines
- Sunken cheeks
- Smile or laugh lines
- Lip lines or smoker’s lines
- Wrinkles around the eyes
Wrinkles, lines, and other uneven features on the forehead can be reduced with dermal fillers.
Wrinkle fillers smooth wrinkles and other lines caused by repeated facial expressions over many years.
If you have sunken cheeks, cheek fillers will give your cheeks their volume back and balance any unevenness.
Marionette lines, smile or laugh lines
Marionette, laugh or smile lines (also called nasolabial folds) can be reduced with dermal filling in the mouth and nose region.
Lip lines or smoker’s lines
Lip injections enhance thin lips by increasing their volume, as well as functioning as wrinkle fillers for nearby lip lines. This helps with preventing ‘lipstick bleed’. Furthermore, wrinkle fillers around the lips straighten and smooth the surrounding skin.
Areas you can treat with dermal fillers
Dermal fillers can be applied in a number of areas:
- lip fillers, lip augmentation or lip enhancement,
- cheek fillers or face fillers,
- under-eye fillers, and
- nose fillers.
How long do dermal fillers last?
The effective time of a dermal filling varies, but in general most treatments used for outer appearance, such as lip fillers, wrinkle fillers, and cheek fillers last for about one year.
