How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?

At Victorian Cosmetic Dermal Clinics Melbourne we use medical grade lasers including the Bluecore Iris Q-switch Nd: YAG Laser(532nm/1064nm/SLP/PTP BlueToning) and the Medlite C6 Q-switched YAG Laser to safely and effectively remove unwanted tattoos. The unique configuration settings on these laser removal devices allow us to treat most colours of ink, including black, blue, green and other lighter coloured tattoos. All of our therapists are laser safety certified and have had direct, accredited training and experience specifically on the device.

The medical grade lasers target your unwanted tattoo using short pulses of light that are attracted to the pigment in the tattoo and destroys the ink. Over time these ink particles are broken down by your immune system and flushed from your body through its waste system.

What type of Laser Tattoo Removal Lasers do you use?

Bluecore Iris Q-switch Nd: YAG Laser is the most powerful and safe Q-switched laser. Using True 15Hz/s pumping speed, it treats pigmented lesions by safely destroying only the ink pigments. With minimal pain, this incredibly efficient treatment can be performed within minutes.

Medlite C6 Q-switched YAG Laser uses unmatched Precision Beam Technology that uses flat-top beam profiles. The homogenous beam delivers laser energy evenly over the pigmented skin to produce consistent results with fewer complications,

Is Laser Tattoo Removal Suitable for You?
At your initial consultation with our highly trained and experienced therapist, they will asses your eligibility for laser tattoo removal. It’s important to note that some lightly coloured tattoos may not respond as well to this treatment as darker colours. During your consultation, we’ll also estimate how many laser tattoo removal treatments you’ll require to get your desired outcome.
What does Laser Tattoo Removal feel like?
VC Dermal Clinics take the time and care to ensure every patient has a comfortable laser tattoo removal treatment. One hour before your laser removal treatment, our therapist will apply a topical anaesthetic cream to the treatment area. We also use a thermal cooling device that uses cold air over the skin during treatment.

Most clients describe the feeling of laser tattoo removal as being similar to a warm elastic band being flicked onto the skin. Learn more by reading our laser tattoo removal FAQ.

What preparation do I need before a laser tattoo removal treatment?
Before you have a laser tattoo removal treatment, it’s very important to keep out of the sun for at least 4 weeks. For the best possible results, it’s also important to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy food, drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly and reducing the amount of alcohol you drink. Reducing the amount of cigarettes you smoke or stopping smoking is also beneficial. These preparatory steps are important to ensure your immune system is as healthy as possible prior to your laser tattoo removal treatment. The healthier you are, the quicker your body will be able to break down and absorb the ink particles.
What should I do after my laser tattoo removal treatment?
After your laser tattoo removal treatment, you must use Bepanthen cream and a soothing agent like Lira Clinical repair balm for 24-48 hours on the treatment area. A non-stick dressing will be applied by your therapist after your treatment and must be kept in place for the first 24-48 hours after treatment. After this period of time it may be removed if no blistering or scabbing is present.

Over the next few days it’s essential you don’t pick at any crusting that may form on the area. To avoid sun damage, it’s important to apply at least SPF 30+ daily to your skin areas exposed to sun. We strongly suggest you avoid any excessive sweating and heat to the treatment area by avoiding excessive exercise, saunas, spas and hot showers. To assist your healing and recovery process, drink plenty of water and maintain a healthy diet.
