Low Intensity Laser Therapy FAQ

Low intensity laser therapy (LILT) provides versatile results individually and as a combined therapy for the treatment of conditions like:

Psoriasis

Eczema

Herpes

Scarring

Acne Scarring

Acute/Chronic Acne

Allergic reaction

Folliculitis

Rosacea

Stretch Marks

Inflammation

Hyperkeratosis

The laser emits a powerful but gentle beam of light which is absorbed by the tissue cells. This provides the cell with energy and stimulates receptors to activate or “turn on” the regeneration process. The various wavelengths of light target various depths of the skin targeting receptors within the cells of tissue creating a photochemical reaction (like photosynthesis in plants)

This reaction leads to a remarkable improvement in the function (metabolism) of the cells by accelerating or slowing down the processes in the cells of the tissue which create balance. The results include:

  • An acceleration in cell reproduction and healing
  • Stimulation of white blood cell production & collagen synthesis
  • Accelerate &/or restore blood flow to damaged tissue, nerves etc
  • Reduces the formation of fibrous or scar tissue which assists in correcting hypertrophic or depressed and pitted scarring
  • Stabilise, reduce or restore the production of pigments
  • Stabilise and reduce swelling which can reduce pain & stiffness

Depending on your skin concern and severity, clients may see visible results in as little as 3-5 treatments. The exact number of treatments required will vary between individuals depending on the condition being treated. Chronic conditions however will require more treatments. A course of anywhere between 3-25 treatments with 1 to 3 treatments per week and a recommendation of a refresher course every 6-12 months depending on skin condition is advised.

Low Intensity Laser Therapy is known as a “cold” laser. The treatments are completely pain free with no side effects what so ever. It is for this reason that LILT can be performed on anyone regardless of skin type.

Low Intensity Laser Therapy may be performed on all skin types and conditions and can be performed before and after any form of laser, IPL (Intense Pulse Light), skin needling and chemical peel treatment. Low Intensity Laser Therapy may also be used as a healing and recuperative therapy after certain cosmetic and surgical procedures such as a tummy tuck, neck lift, breast enlargement, or caesarian to aid in the healing of the scar tissue.

LILT is a non invasive medical grade skin treatment with no downtime what so ever. It is for this reason, LILT does not have any post care recommendations. It is simply advised that you follow the post treatment prescription prescribed by your paramedical therapist.

Treatment time for Low Intensity Laser Therapy can vary anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes and does not cause any skin irritation or redness, meaning you can enjoy the benefits of low-intensity laser therapy within a tight schedule.
